Mentors
At Barons Court, our year six pupils apply for prefect roles that they are specifically interested in and the roles that they feel they can make a difference to across the whole school, once appointed. A mentor is one of the prefect roles and as a mentor the children work both internally; supporting our school community, and externally; supporting people in our local area.
The 2025-2026 Nursery Mentors are: Alex, Mia, Skye, Kacey, Safiya, Emma and Ruben.
The 2025-2026 Community Mentors are: Ruben, Bryce, Leander, Jacob, Ava, Jessica and Kane.
The 2025-2026 Academic Mentors are: Antzela, Liliana, Persephone and Mason.
The mentors are very passionate about making a difference to many people in our community both inside and outside of the school gates. They engage with the nursery children and support maths in Phase 3. The Nursery Mentors go into the Nursery twice a week to play with the children and to support them with learning new skills. They also spend time exploring books with the children in Phase 3 and supporting them with their use of phonics to read new words.
The Community Mentors also recognise that we have so many great care homes in our local area who work very hard. They like to support the care homes across Westcliff and will be doing this by sending them video messages, stories, songs and activities this year. We are sure that the residents will really appreciate the thought and consideration and will enjoy seeing the children regularly.

Community Mentors
At Barons Court, we believe learning extends beyond the classroom and into the heart of our community. Our Community Mentors are Year 6 pupils, who act as positive role models for younger pupils, showing them the importance of kindness, responsibility, and leadership. Through their example, they encourage others to grow into active citizens, who care for and contribute to the world around them. This year, our Mentors are leading a variety of initiatives that strengthen these values: from local litter picks that encourage pride in our environment, to creative projects such as making Christmas cards for our neighbours and the residents of Milton House Care Home next door. They will also be visiting the care home to spend time with residents, sharing conversation, joy, and companionship. Pupils will also connect across generations by joining the Southend United Senior Shrimpers, celebrating the power of community through sport and friendship. Our Community Mentor programme is about more than events though — it’s about nurturing role models, inspiring active citizenship, and showing our pupils the difference they can make when they give their time, talents, and compassion to others.
