Special Educational Needs

Special Educational Needs

Barons Court Primary School and Nursery is committed to providing an appropriate and high quality education to all of the children within our school. We believe that all children, including those identified as having special educational needs have a common entitlement to a broad and balanced academic and social curriculum, which is accessible to them. We equally value all pupils in the school and strive to eliminate prejudice and discrimination developing an environment where all children can flourish and feel safe. At Barons Court we are committed to inclusion. We strategically plan for improvement ensuring a sense of community and belonging, which offers new opportunities to learners who may have experienced previous challenges. This does not mean that we treat all learners in the same way, but that we respond to learners in ways which take account of their varied life experiences and needs. All staff within our school receive high quality information and training to ensure that all children's personalised needs are enhanced. We aim to quickly identify pupils who may require additional support and we provide targeted interventions and high quality learning experiences to support and meet their needs.

We ensure that parents are fully aware of the SEND process and families are informed of their child's learning at regular points throughout the year.

We are a fully inclusive school and we work alongside the Local Authority, Health Professionals, our Trust teams and community organisations to find the most appropriate and effective support for pupils within our care.

We hope the following documents will give you more information in relation to SEND and how our school and home partnerships can support your children. If you wish to discuss your child’s support programmes or receive any further information regarding our provision please do not hesitate to get in touch with your child's home group teacher or our SENCO - Mrs Julia Jones.

Key Documents

This SEND Information Report is part of the Southend Local Offer for pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We have published our information about the implementation of our policy and practice for pupils with SEND.

The Local Offer

The Local Offer has two key purposes:

  • To provide clear, comprehensive and accessible information about the provision available to support disabled children and children with SEND and their families.  This easy to understand information will set out what is normally available in schools to help children with lower-level SEND as well as the options available to support families who need additional help to care for their child.
  • To make provision more responsive to local needs and aspirations by directly involving children and young people with SEND, parents/carers and service providers in its development and review.

As a school we have provided details of our specific offer which reflects Southend City Council’s Local Offer which can be found at https://livewellsouthend.com/kb5/southendonsea/directory/localoffer.page?localofferchannel=0  Please click on the document below to view our school offer.
