Barons Court Primary School and Nursery

Our Curriculum

Curriculum

Our most recent Ofsted inspection (March 2023) commented that 'Pupils excel at Barons Court. They play a full part in the life of the school. As a result, they become confident and creative young people by the time they leave in Year 6. Lessons are interesting and make pupils think hard. They are excited about learning new things and love coming to school."

"The curriculum sets out a journey of learning for pupils. Leaders are precise about what pupils need to know and remember in each subject. Teachers plan activities that meet the needs of individual pupils. Pupils follow the rich and exciting curriculum extremely well.  Teachers have expert knowledge in the subjects they teach. This means they quickly identify and correct any mistakes pupils make. Pupils’ learning is reinforced by structured opportunities for practising, using and recalling knowledge. Teachers are skilled at adapting their learning based on what pupils know and can do."

At Barons Court Primary School and Nursery, our school curriculum comprises all the learning and enrichment experiences that we provide in order to develop the whole child. It is underpinned by the National Curriculum for Key Stages 1 and 2 and the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework.

At Barons Court Primary we teach in Phases.
Phase 1 – Nursery
Phase 2 – Reception
Phase 3 – Years 1, 2 and 3
Phase 4 – Years 4, 5 and 6

Our school day for pupils in Phase 2- Phase 4 is 8.45am-3.15pm.

Our Curriculum Intent

Our school is situated in a community with links across a wide range of generations. Our families are fully involved in our school and community involvement is integral to our curriculum. We invite families and visitors to facilitate learning new skills and sharing experiences such as assemblies and curriculum workshops.   We have a flexible approach to learning and adapt to the needs and aspirations of our children and families. Ultimately our curriculum is driven by community so that all members of our school have a strong sense of belonging to a tightly knit community and is intended to:
•    Develop our head and body: What we learn.
•    Develop our character: Who we are.
•    Develop our actions and attitudes: How we live and learn.
•    Develop our moral compass: Where we fit in the world.

Learning at Barons Court is the process of developing essential knowledge to then move to deeper understanding so that learners can appropriately transfer the skills of learning to new tasks and situations.

We have designed our curriculum to develop knowledge, understanding and skills for all children across a variety of exciting learning experiences and all curriculum subjects. Please click on our Curriculum Intent Statements below to see our aims for all National Curriculum subjects which are enjoyed by the children at our school.

As a school we are also committed to ensuring a breadth of learning experiences for all of our children to enjoy throughout their time with us. Children are encouraged to express themselves, fully understand the importance of their role within the wider community and have fun!
